Columbia Art League Mentorship
Over the course of four months, I had the pleasure of mentoring an incredible local Columbia, Missouri, high school artist through the mentorship program at Columbia Art League. Throughout the experience, we each created our own bodies of work in response to shared sketchbooks, building an ongoing visual dialogue through collage, drawing, and experimentation. The digital illustrations below are my responses to some of the analog collage work that emerged from our collaboration. It’s been such a rewarding experience to witness ideas evolve back and forth through the sketchbooks and into finished works.
CAL's mentorship program is designed to increase accessibility to meaningful engagement with the arts for underserved populations, specifically high school artists, in the Columbia area community. Selected student artists are paired with a working professional artist in their desired media category. Pairs will meet at least twice monthly as well as attend professional development workshops. With the guidance and support of their mentor, each student is expected to develop a small portfolio of work which reflects their exploration of a concept or theme. Admission to this program is based on a demonstrated passion for fine art production and a deep commitment to growing, learning, and furthering their goals as an artist. CAL aims to pair students with top quality professional artists in our community who are actively producing work and make a living in the arts.
