Instagram Research
Because of the prevalence of social media in contemporary life, it is important that questions be asked and research be conducted to inform our understanding of it and to potentially enhance our relationship with it. My dissertation, an illustrated autoethnography, examined the impact of social media on creativity, learning, and mental health. I then investigated how these concerns were revealed in my own practice. Utilizing experiential and social learning theories, I further embedded my experience within the lives of others so that I could more deeply consider the impact of those concerns. These discoveries were intended to assist in my own development as an artist, researcher, and teacher, and to provide a more focused portrait of becoming and mental health in our new online social classroom.
