The Map of the Invisible: Playing with Color and Movement
Works by Gladys Swan
As a writer and visual artist, Gladys Swan is dedicated to the exploration of how imagination can offer us a way of knowing, not only in the effort to communicate her a personal vision but also to a create a sense of community and a recognition of influences from the past. “From an early age, the arts have offered me a path for exploration and a wonderful opportunity to determine how I see the world. My efforts have taken various forms both as a writer and a visual artist. In high school and college I wrote poetry and short stories, took classes in art and drama, and acted in plays. For a time I aspired to be an actress. As I have explored these various pathways I have come to see that the imagination is an extraordinary way of knowing and should be highly valued.” - Gladys Swan
The Map of the Invisible: Playing with Color and Movement took place at The Montminy Art Gallery in Columbia, Missouri from February 2 to March 31, 2019. I co-curated this show with Kate Gray when I served as the assistant gallery director.
