The Zipper Fest
“More than just a craft and arts festival…
Answering the call to combat social isolation and loneliness, The Zipper Fest brings people together in an environment that encourages human connection and interaction through art and entertainment. Crafters and artists from across Missouri and beyond have booths with affordable handmade items for purchase. Connection Corners, designed by local artists, will be staged throughout the festival and provide a cozy, cool spot to interact in, talk with someone you know, or meet someone new.”
About the installation:
Chromatic Communion is a large-scale, interactive, kinetic art installation designed specifically for The Zipper Fest. Standing 8 feet tall and spanning 6 feet in width, this vibrant wooden structure features a rotating centerpiece powered by a hidden 12v motor. The left side of the piece displays the festival’s name. Flowers throughout radiate a colorful, playful energy, in keeping with the unique and offbeat spirit of the Arcade District.
As the central component rotates at 6 RPM, the swirling motion not only provides visual interest but also metaphorically “unzips” social barriers by drawing people together. The piece is designed to be a spot for photos and spontaneous interactions, helping The Zipper Fest meet its goal of combating social isolation through creative engagement.
Special thank you to Tony Irons for helping install this pieces and for capturing the photos and video seen below.
